Rosann

I was up earlier today than normal. And I randomly checked my e-mail where I found a sad e-mail. It was a letter from Jean Avery, a friend from Redmond, letting everyone know that her mother Rosann passed away last night after a long battle with cancer.

Rosann was a really good friend of mine. She was the typical baseball-loving, poker-playing italian New Yorker. I loved her. She always made for the best conversation as well. She taught me how to appreciate good classic movies like Casablanca and Citizen Kane. And she always found an odd job for me to do when I was looking to save some money; such as painting a fence or putting together her lawn furniture. She was also always there for big events. She came to my high school graduation, all of our family parties and birthdays. She even came to a comic competition I was in back in high school.

I love her dearly and I'm going to miss her and feel sad at her passing. But I'm going to remember her with love and go out and have a great day just for her.

Thanks Rosann! - "Miss" Holly

Rejected Water Pokemon

This is really weird but I am being stalked by multi-eyed sea shells... or rejected water pokemon ideas. I found the first one (the one with the mouth and eye brows) last week on the hood of my car. Then I found the second one today in the basket of my bike. I don't know where they keep coming from but I find it hilarious.

From the way they look at each other, I feel like they know each other

Warning: This video is really strange. But my newest little friends here remind me of this.

Eggberts Part 2

Good News on the Disney Front!!!

My interview was today!!

So the last week or so has been absolutely grueling for me. I'm not going to go into the whole story because it's far too long and depressing, but the bottom line is that I was mistakenly told that all positions were full in Disneyland, so there was no chance of getting in. I was upset but then a friend of mine from Disney World told me that I did the application wrong because they didn't know I was a current cast member! So I filled out the correct paper work, faxed it in and I called to see if they got it. A woman said yes and that it's processing (first piece of good news) and then today a woman I have been trying to reach for this whole time called me and asked if I could do a quick interview!!!

That's where the story begins. I was in the gym this morning when she called, so I was sweaty and out of breath and I couldn't hear over the booming screen of BYU-TV (whoever thinks that that would be an appropriate show to watch while running is WRONG... I wouldn't even want to watch it sitting on a couch in my pjs! SO boring). But any ways, I was able to get her to call me back in an hour and a half. So I ran home and showered. Then at exactly 2:30 she called!!

The interview was actually only ten minutes long, and I've already discussed word-for-word what happened with both parents so I'll just put out the basic outline-
1- She asked me why Disneyland: It's always been my goal from the beginning to work in DL but I started in DW because of the BYU housing
2- What did I do in DW: I worked in the Magic Kingdom Parking lot driving the tram and I LOVED it
3- She saw that I requested Guest Relations and do I understand that I'll be working with people who can be frustrated ranging to anger to complimentary: I said yes, I've had my fair share in the parking lot
4- Then she asked for an example of how I dealt with a frustrated guest, so I told her about the old man who swore at me until I found his car and then he loved me. She loved that example.
5- Then she had me ask what my top 3 roles were: Guest Relations!, Attractions, and PhotoPass
6-Why Attractions?: Because I love being able to talk to the guests and sharing their excitement for the ride and being able to hear about their days
7- THEN!! She proceeded to tell me that by talking to me she thinks I'll be GREAT for Guest Relations and she'll suggest me for the position! Also, I was her last interview for the day so she was going to send out my recommendation today and I'll hear back from them in about a week and a half for the next steps!!

I'm SO excited about this! I feel really positive about this. I feel like this is exactly what I'm meant to do, so now all I have to do is settle down and wait for the long haul until I hear back from them! AHHHHHH! I'm just too excited!!! I want to know NOW!!

Animals

So I have this weird thing. My roommate Allison is awesome. Also, I cannot handle youtube videos with animals. They literally kill me! It's like that strange habit I have of crying when animals die in movies but not really caring when the main character dies... example, I Am Legend. But my roommate Allison was showing me these adorable creature and I was freaking out. They're just too cute!... I miss Pippin

Eggberts

So I started doing a weird thing... in order to get more vitamins in my diet, I've started to eat a lot of hard boiled eggs every day. Now in order to tell the hard-boiled eggs from the non-boiled, I started marking them.

Then I got the genius idea of drawing faces on them. Kissy faces, happy faces, faces that looked like they were screaming in pain when they are cracked. It sounds creepy but it's oddly hilarious.

Then my roommate Allison joined in. Allison is also an art major and an awesome "doodler". So she started drawing on the eggs for me. Here are the best ones yet....

A Dalek from Dr. Who and Darth Vader... villains are the best to crush

Chewie

Death Star

Pippin! "Dear Holly- I ♥ and miss U"

Allison screaming "Don't Crack Me!"

The infamous letter egg-- "Dear Holly"

Adventures of Holly and Bubba

So my childhood friend Conner, aka "Bubba" is on a mission for the church. I often send him letters once a week. But one weekend... ok conference weekend... I was bored of coloring so I decided to create something new to color.

And so I created this comic for Bubba to entertain him. They are all adventures that we've gone through. I LOVE it! Enjoy!

Disneyland Here I Come!!

So today was the meeting for the Disney College Program. Like I've already said before, I've decided to try another one! Only this time I've decided to go to Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

So anyways... I went to the meeting today with my Disney roommate Alyssa and we had a total relapse of PDD (Post Disney Depression). We couldn't help it! They were showing pictures of our old housing complex, our individual parks (you claim the park where you work... I worked in the parking lot, but I claimed Magic Kingdom due to proximity), and people in their name tags! I totally miss wearing my name tag. We barely listened to the presentation because we were too busy reminiscing. But the meeting was great, once they saw we were Alumni, they asked us to stay and stick around so we could answer any questions that the new applicants might have and that was really fun to do.

But I got my paperwork in and all of the stuff to apply and I'm doing it! The only thing is, I found that by applying now I would be in California from January to August instead of April to January. This turns out to be more ideal, since that way I wouldn't miss any holidays with my family, they have housing for that term when they might not for the other term I was thinking about, and it would be easier to be gone for winter semester than for fall. I still have a lot to think about but I'm going to continue the application process. I can always say 'not yet'.

But I took the online interview (basic questions making sure I'm not a psycho) and I passed! So the next thing for me to do is to call tomorrow and set up an over-the-phone interview. I'm kind of excited, but like I said... this isn't for sure, and I can always change my mind.

I'll keep you posted!

Disney Brings Genius to the Open Sea

Ok, now this is just COOL! So a couple of weeks ago, Disney had it's big announcement broadcast... Yes, I skipped class to watch it but you have to understand, this is like the Conference for Disney Geeks! And in this announcement they introduced the two new ships they're adding to the cruise line, both of which are heading to Alaska! Woop woop!

But anyways, that's not the cool part... the cool part is what they're doing to the actual rooms. Most of the cabins in the lower deck of the ships won't have portholes or windows to see out. And since Disney has decided to make the prices more economic, they want to add a special touch to those rooms for the families who are on a budget. So they've created these "Magic Portholes". They aren't real windows, infact they are screens portraying an image of the horizon and if you watch it long enough, you will be visited by over 13-dozen different charcters, leading you on your Disney Sea Voyage!

There's a video which has a better and cooler explanation so click HERE to watch it! I can't wait to go on one some day!!!

Disney's two newest ships are also going to be their largest!

And the Magic Continues...

So for all of the people that do a college program with Disney, there is a very common disease called PDD (Post Disney Depression). Side effects include: tears to any and every Disney song, uncontrollable tendency to talk about inside Disney jokes with Disney-friends around non-Disney friends, strange cravings for rides, pupils turning into the shapes or three interconnecting ellipses, and the tendency to jump at any mention of the word "Disney".

I can't help it. Although I loved my job and my roommates, and I totally loved going to the parks for free; certain people and bad experiences with the people I worked with have made it so I have NO desire to return to Florida. Plus the weather was just too much to handle.

But I still have this uncontrollable desire to work with this company that I love so much. Also, since I don't have many options for a place to live this summer... (I know I have many options from people who care about me, but there's a difference between a home that's mine and a home that belongs to someone else). So I'm determined to find something for myself, and I've discovered the perfect decision...

DISNEYLAND!!!

That's right... I'm going back to work for the Mouse. I'm going to apply for an internship with Disneyland in Anaheim California. And this time I'm going to apply for a position in Guest Relations which means I'll be working with VIPs and doing tours. I'll be one of those girls walking around dressed as a Jockey, leading people with a riding crop!

That'll be me!! (In the skirt)

I think I have a really good chance for it too. Since I've already gone through a program, there's an extremely high chance of me being accepted and given the job of my choice. Plus, I'm applying for the term that goes from April 2010 to January 2011. So my being there for a good nine months shows my dedication to be there. ALSO! With my standing with the company and my status as a previous cast member, I'll be getting better pay!

The meeting is this Wednesday and then the application process will just fly by, so I'll keep you updated! Wish me luck!

Somewhere out there, there is a giant looking for something to hang their laundry with!

Check this out! My roommate Allison sent me a link to this awesome Sculpture in Bellgium. Click HERE to see it.

Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash

This is one of my all-time favorite paintings done by Giacomo Dalla. Can't you just hear his little feet ticking as he's walking?

Katie Turner- Boys

I thought this was particularly cute. It's just an artist and her interpretation of the perfect man

Believing in God Saves Me Money

So today was the graduate fair in the Gym today. On a normal day I would cut through the parking lot and then cross the street (J-walk) in order to get to my apartment.

However, by some strange miracle, I had a feeling that I should go to the Graduate School Fair. Now, I don't really have any intent on going to a graduate school. There really isn't any available for my desired degree or profession. But I signed in and walked around. There wasn't even any art schools there so it was basically me just wandering around until I was completely bored.

So I left the gym, and the cross walk happened to be there. I crossed the cross-walk and walked on the sidewalk until I reached my complex.

As I got to the complex, there was a cop car handing out tickets to all of the people who were j-walking. Everyone does it in that same exact spot where I usually do. And the cops kept leaving and then coming back, handing out TONS of unsuspecting J-walkers.

So thank you Heavenly Father for keeping my safe in traffic and also for saving me money!

Diane Arbus

I'm working really hard in my photography class lately. I'm really starting to get into it and I've never had a subject that clicked so easily while I was learning. It's amazing! It's not like drawing or painting that requires pure creativity. It's a science and there's a lot of technical stuff to it. I love it! It's actual work where the result is a truly rewarding piece of time. I'm addicted.

But since I'm so focused on photography, I had to show my favorite photo. It's so odd and comical that it's almost adorable. It's by Diane Arbus called "Boy with a Toy Hand Grenade". When this photo was taken, it caused a huge stir but I just love it! It's just this goofy little boy who was playing and stopped to make a face at the camera.

I hope my son is just like this scrawny little boy!

I Will Never Drink Milk Again

This weekend has been amazing. We had such a fun trip. My roommate Stephanie is from a little town outside of Rexburg called Blackfoot, Idaho. She lives on a dairy farm and she and her family invited our whole apartment to check out the farm and have a home-cooked meal. My roommate Jill had a volleyball tournament so everyone else left earlier in the day on Saturday and Jill and I came behind them after her final game. The drive was a little over an hour and it was literally in the middle of no where.

Once we got to the farm, we headed straight over to a neighboring potato farm run by Steph's soccer coach. Since there's a lot of pictures below, I'm going to explain the trip picture by picture instead of typing it out and then explaining the pictures again. But after the potato farm, we went back to Steph's to play with the cows!

We had such an amazing time. But we were exhausted! After cleaning the barn up a bit; meaning spraying a hose to clear out the poo from the stalls and then using giant shovels to clear out the poo from the giant enclosure. Then we went back in the house, washed up and had a delicious home-cooked meal of taco soup and homemade bread. We hung around for a while but as it was getting late we headed out, stopping at a tiny gas station/ diner to get some ice cream. It was so much fun but so exhausting! We all slept so well (After very thorough showers to wash off the stink of cow) and I think we've all learned to appreciate the men and their families who have to do this 2 times a day everyday in order to receive small pay. It's not a very rich life, but they seem so happy. Thank you Anderson family!

Lauren and Allison. We were all REALLY excited to see a potato field!

Stephanie, Jessie, and Jill in the front

Literally in the middle of Blackfoot Idaho

Those trucks are FULL of potatos... and there were like 5 more!

MILLIONS of potatoes!

This cute little old man was just sitting in the shade with the potatoes. His son was the farmer that owned the farm. He was so cute and def

That huge cellar is COMPLETELY FULL of potatoes

We got to walk through this dark, wet tunnel to get to the back of the cellar, then climbed these pitch black stairs and actually stood on top of all the potatoes! The inside looks like the huts of the Sand People from Star Wars

Millions of Dirty Potatoes

Jill was basking in the potatoes

Then we buried Lauren in Potatoes

When we got back to Steph's we got to see all the baby cows

Then we climbed inside a Grain elevator and played in the grain... only there was tons of dead crickets too... yuck

It would not be a real farm without TONS of cats everywhere!

The baby cows would suck on our hands! It was kind of really gross

But they were so sweet!

I was celebrating my success in actually doing farm work (pictures are out of order here, it'll make more sense as you go down)

They were so soft and kissy!

Doing farm work!!

And right on top of the baby cow... maybe I'll stick to photography

Big Mommas

LOTS of big mommas!

There's no true friendship like the friend that lets you rest your head on her bum

This was spike, the cat that followed us everywhere and would let you do anything to him. He's so snugly

"What are you looking at?" I was taking a lot of photos of the cows and they didn't seem to appreciate it

We climbed a huge 15ft pile of hay bails. This is where I learned that I am allergic to Hay. After we went back in the house, I was covered in what I though were scratches, but then the scratches started to multiply and get REALLY itchy. I had to take benadryl :(

You can't really tell but we're REALLY high up!

We like to goof off a lot. And yes, that is Spike of Jessie's head

Then Steph took me and Jill on a ride on this HUGE tractor. We screamed the whole time!

Still screaming... some of us are screaming with Joy, others with fear...

Then Jill drove and I REALLY screamed!

I took two cameras with me. My film camera and my SLR. I was legit

All of us in our coveralls and boots... ready to do the milking

They don't use their hands anymore. It would take way too long. So we learned how to clean the udders, hook them up to the machines, then disinfect the udders and send out the cows. It was crazy busy. We also feed the baby cows and cleaned things up.

It STANK in there. This is me and Jill. While we are hooking the cows up to the milker, you have to be careful, you are standing by their back end, and you never know when a cow is going to "Drop a pie", Allison had that misfortune of getting some splattered on her face!

This is my "having fun but NEVER drinking milk again" face
